Horatio Alger Alumni Scholars honored with highly competitive awards to pursue advanced degree programs

WASHINGTON, March 23, 2026—The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Inc., a nonprofit that honors leaders who have overcome adversity and supports young people in furthering their education, today announced the 2026 recipients of its graduate scholarship programs. Five outstanding students will receive the Dennis Washington Leadership Graduate Scholarship and two will receive the Horatio Alger Graduate Achievement Scholarship. These deserving recipients were selected from more than 30 undergraduate National and State Horatio Alger Alumni Scholar applicants who demonstrated academic excellence and leadership.

The Horatio Alger Association helps young people envision the opportunities made possible through the American free-enterprise system and takes immense pride in its Alumni and current Scholars. Since 1984, the Association has awarded more than $275 million in need-based scholarships to 38,000 high school seniors who are committed to continuing their education and giving back to society, despite facing serious adversity in their lives. All of these have been privately funded by Horatio Alger Members and Friends of Distinction, who dedicate their time and resources to ensure future generations can overcome challenges and achieve success through higher education.
