2017 Global Leadership Summit Resource Center

Summary

The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans is excited to be hosting our first Global Leadership Summit in July 2017 for Alumni at venues in the United Kingdom and France. Thirty alumni have been selected through a competitive application process to join us on an all-expenses-paid, ten-day leadership-training summit in Europe. These individuals are committed to making a significant contribution as leaders in their respective communities and it is our hope that the summit will provide these individuals with the practical tools and theoretical knowledge to pursue their vision. Scholars will develop and lead a yearlong project that serves a community, team, or organization following their on-site training.

Theme and Goals

Theme: Leadership in a Changing Europe
Attendees will explore the challenges and strategies that leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators use to navigate the complex demands of meeting consumer and client needs in a diverse and changing regulatory, economic, and demographic landscape.

  • Summit attendees will learn about the principles of effective leadership through pre-conference literature, on-location lectures/debates/site visits, and guided discussion from in-country experts.
    • Summit attendees will learn how leaders from around the globe have effectively leveraged principles of effective leadership, entrepreneurship, and reconciliation to confront significant socio-political challenges.
  • Summit attendees will transfer principles of entrepreneurship and leadership to individual projects.
  • Summit attendees will build a collaborative learning community through which they review curricular outcomes, project challenges, and project successes as well as share and receive project development advice.
